06 Jun 2011 Continuing on with Geneva & Lusanne, Switzerland

Our first stop was Geneva. It is the head quarters for International Corporations such as the Red Cross and the Olympic Committee. There is also two glaciers that haven't melted yet, so come see it before it does. It is true that the Saint Bernard dog was bred here by the Augustinian Monks to the kind of dog we have today. This is why it is called St. Bernard Pass. It is a pass coming from Italy into Switzerland. The monastery was located near it.

Remember the novel "Heidi"? Well, it takes place in this area. It is an interesting town and beautiful to the eyes. We went by the Cathedral de St. Pierre which is the site where John Calvin gave his ispiring sermon during the 16th century. Jet d'Eau is a prominent mark on Lake Geneva. A huge jet fountain that shoots at least 50 feet into the air. Lots of people walk around the lake and enjoy the day.



























Lusanne is very picturesque. The city is built on three hills and is surrounded with vineyards. It sits by beautiful Lake Geneva, and rising above in the back ground are the Savoy Alps. The ride from Geneva to Lusanne and on to Bern is awesome. We just couldn't get enough photo time. Wish I had a better camera so I could actually capture this place. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The Lusanne Cathedral is very Gothic. Right outside the cathedral is a large wall that someone just couldn't leave alone. Some great art form (at least that is what Europe calls it). I had to take a picture of Elder Walters next to it. Lusanne is referred to as the Swiss Riviera and is a second home to many famous people such as Hemingway, Byron, Shelley and Charlie Chaplin. We went inside the Lusanne Cathedral and took a few photos of the awesome view from the top.

The favorite gourmet dish here is a cabbage filled with sausage and leek gratin. Next time we travel here we will be sure and get a little taste of Switzerland.
