20 Nov 2010- Rothenberg at Christmas Time

On our way to Rothenberg we ate at a cute little restaurant, but without knowing I ordered cold herring. Yuck!. Also included a map of our mission area, the yellow part. The purple & green are also Germany but not our area.

Town of Bessenbach

Today we went to our favorite city, Rothenberg, to look for Christmas presents. How surprized we were to find that the city was preparing for their month long Christmas celebration. Booths were being constructed, windows being dressed and the huge Christmas tree in the center of town ready to be decorated. Of course we went to Katy Wohlfahrts, the ultimate Christmas store. W bought a few ornaments and a birthday present. We ate at our favorite brat place and just walked around taking in the beautiful city. We can't tell you why it is our favorite city because there is no fabulous castle, or palace or even gardens to see, I think it is the spirit of the city that we love so much. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany. There is lots of history here.

We found an antique shop with pre war memorabilia and it was so nice meeting the little lady who owns the place. She saw our badges and said she had a really good friend who comes to Germany every few months to see how she is getting on. He is a member of the church, a brother Jones, who lives in Corona Del Mar. She said he was here at one time working for the church and loved Germany so much he bought himself a home in Garmish. It is true, you should always be an example for the church wherever you go. You never know who you will run in to. Isn't it nice when you know someone you are meeting ,has been prepared by another member of the church who was a good example. Love the church.

I took some pictures of the shops and surrounding towns on our way home. The statue is of a black Madonna and the baby Jesus. They say there are only a few in the world. Well there is one here in Bessenback, a town on our way home. We had a great day and we are looking forward to the Christmas season.

Every Hotel has a sign like this

  3. He had to have something to put all of his pins on from places he has been. He is the old man good thing you didn't see one of the old lady. Wish everyone could be here to feel the excitement and the crisp air.
