Juni 26, 2010 International Day in Frankfurt

Got up early this morning, went to the Romerberg which is the oldest section of Frankfurt. This is a special day here. International Day where all the cultures get together and celebrate. The bells were ringing everywhere today all at once. It was a glorious sound. We found a seat in the shade and sat there until the parade began, then I had to get up to see the parade. I was facing the sun so that was a bad thing, and the parade was 2 hours long. There are a lot of cultures here. I took a pictures of each one but decided to just show you the best ones. We had a place at the end of the parade route where they did their dance numbers in front of the judges. It was very entertaining. The two groups of people that stood out in my mind as being the most entertaining and most colorful was Indonesia and Bolivia, thus all the pictures of that group. You decide for yourself. Honestly, I did label each one of those pictures but it never shows on my blog.

I took a picture of a bierwagon (you guessed it) a group of people (preferably strong legged people), sit down and pedal while the guy on the back takes it easy by steering and braking. They drink their beer on the journey around town. Drink and pedal, pedal and drink until they fall off, I guess, and are replaced by more sober individuals. I love Germany. Always something to look at. People are always looking for ways to make money on the Romerberg. Lots of artists, musical and other wise. There were a few statue people, that's what I call them. You know the ones who stand like a statue but at the last minute move to show you they are not real? I took pictures of them all.

After the parade we walked to the international food court down by the Main River. They had all kinds of foods. I saw people eating fish heads. Didn't look too appetizing to me. I ate three Columbian fry breads. Much like an Indian Fry bread but it had queso in the middle. They were deep fried, so delicious. Lots of bands were playing during the day. One played a lot of American rock, with a little bit of German and Brazilian music. They were very good. They must be a popular group from Germany . I love to hear them do a rock song in German. The language is so guteral. Went home tired again, but we always get up for church the next day.
