22 Apr 2011 Hessen Park town of Neu Ansbach

A beautiful day, 70 degrees with no rain in sight. We went to Hessen Park in the town of New Ansbach which is 15 miles away from our home. We took the Paxton's with us, they are always a bunch of fun. This is not actually a town, but 18th century houses, barns and other buildings that have been transplanted from around the state of Hessen in Germany, complete with cobble stone streets and fountains.

As you enter the Markt Platz there are people sitting around enjoying the fountain and all the quaint little businesses. I immediately spied a soap shop, all homemade things and a broom shop. I could not believe all the things that are made from reeds and stems of growing plants. They also had a working cheese shop (kase), a bakery (bakeri) and three good restaurants. We walked into the part of the town that had museums for everything imaginable. I took pictures and hope they got labeled correctly. We paid a small fee, but that goes to the upkeep and it was well worth it. We loved all the old fashions and costumes, the spinning wheels and weaving machines. I can imagine how hard life must have been in those days. We saw large barns with their farm implements and houses with their hand made furniture. I really thought the 50's front room was outstanding. Took me back to my childhood. Even Germany had there 50's furniture.

This all brought to us a little bit of German History. As you will see I also love old German pictures and they had allot. They had replicas of the old German Post office, blacksmith store, and an old General store. Gene especially loved the stillery and the barns. Best of all was the Millinery that sold material and their advertisements. We spent the whole day here and we enjoyed the beautiful garden and park that they had here, just like a little village or dorf would have.
