TOWNE OF
PRAGUE

We started out early in the morning and met with the Director of the Prague Family History Center in the Czech Republic, Brother Radovan Canek, a very friendly and humble man. He was so thankful that we had brought him a reader and told us so many times during our visit. People in America just don't really know how lucky they are to have the huge FHC's that they have. Brother Canek took us to the center and it was just the size of two normal clothes closets put together. this I was told was shared by the Ward Clerk. No one complained however.

This chapel was undergoing some big renovations, scaffolding on every wall. New stucco, new reinforcements and new painting was being done on the outside. This building held not only the Ward, the FHC, the YSA Center and the Prague Mission President's office. All the Elder's, Sister's and Senior Missionaries were helping to move the Mission President's office across the street where they will have more room. The old space is now going to be used as the new YSA Center. We met the two couples serving as the YSA leaders. They were busy getting everything set up. How excited they were because the Young Adults have been bringing their friends to the Center and in turn being taught by the Missionaries. They will have 9 baptisms this month.

We told our Supervisor with the Missionaries being there at the YSA Center and having the FHC in close proximity, it will be a great opportunity for the Missionaries to acquaint them with Genealogy work. Hopefully, more people will get involved in Indexing, which is sorely needed here in Europe. After leaving the FHC we met up with our friends Diane and Steve Trageser from California who had a time share right in Prague for the weekend. They had been touring in Europe for the last few weeks and we were on the last leg of that tour. They offered to us a free place to stay for a couple of nights so we could look around Prague.

I have to say, the quickest and best way to see all of Prague is to take a 2 hour tour by bus. I think we walked everywhere. Prague was having a festival on Friday so there were lots of booths to peruse. Food was on our agenda. Homemade potato chips, brats and good old eis for dessert. FYI, The Tavala River is just over a meter deep so they use to use it as an ice scating rink each winter, but for the last few years, it has not been cold enough to freeze over. Something is happening to the weather world wide. It's the last days folks. Get ready.

Later in the day we took a boat ride through the the canals on the river. I think I took some pretty good photos. This is truly a beautiful city. There is a wonderful Cathedral called St. Vitus. There is at least 2 tons of pure silver sculptures in that place. The Royal Palace was huge but not as elaborate as some I have seen in Germany. We stayed for two days here and ate some wonderful Czech food.
