27 - 28 May 2011- Dresden Stake Youth Confernce in at Freiberg Temple

Back to Freiberg by 5:00 PM to set up for our Dresden Youth Seminar. This is where the first Temple in Germany was built and it was in East Germany under Communist rule at the time. How could that be? I think it was because at the time, the church was growing faster than any where else in Germany. The Saints were also very faithful even under extreme conditions of persecution. We feel blessed to be here to help the Dresden Youth learn about family history and indexing. This was my first time giving the lecture on indexing while our supervisor Richard Walker gave the lecture on Family History. Elder Walters was in charge of putting the computers up and making sure they were secured. I believe it went well as the youth seemed to be interested in Indexing. I told them how many youth were doing it in the US and that they were even having contests as to who could do the most indexing. They thought that was cool. Afterwards we ate a great meal of Elder Walters' favorite, BRATS with kartoffel salat. (potato salad.)

Back to the bed and breakfast at 10:00 PM. Couldn't wait for that blessed bed after Elder Walters walked my feet off. On Saturday we got up at 7:00 Am and was delighted to have a homemade breakfast made by our gracious hostess Christine. She is not a member of the church but she takes care of all the missionaries that come to visit the temple. She made us a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs with ham, cold cuts, warm German bread and of course yogurt, a main stay in breakfast here but usually mixed with granola.

We had a replay of Friday but we had two sessions instead of one. It was hard to figure out all the German words on the computer but I survived, hopefully it will get easier. I took pictures of the Temple which is simple, but a spiritual edifice. The church was grateful for the land and they made good use of it by building a chapel there. It was a little strange to see kids running all around having a Primary activity while adults were going in and out of the Temple. What better way to show that we are all about families. The children get to actually see their parents going to the temple. Another dinner given by the ward on Saturday night. Lots of pasta salads and a big pot of soup filled with lots of veggies and great German bread, yum.

At 2:00 Bro Walker said we could pack up the computers and head out which we did. So glad we had a hotel to go to in Dresden. Another blog for another day.
