19 & 22 Jun 2011- Frankfurt & Forst Fam, Hist. Center

19 JUN- FRANKFURT
This was a free day but a short one so we decided to take them for a walk about of downtown Frankfurt. Showed Johnny and Jenny the fine art of German dining with their first REAL brat. They loved them, as we all do. We visited the huge Cathedral that runs by the Main River and then to see the Romer Platz, the place where Hitler stood on a balcony and ordered the burning of all the books in the middle of the Platz. There is a plaque showing this.

22 JUN- FORST FAMILY HISTORY CENTER

Today we were given the assignment to visit the Forst Family History Center. This will be the first time we have had this sort of assignment so we were very excited to be able to interact with the members who love this work as much as we do. Johnny and Jenny had rented a car and they graciously volunteered to drive us there so we got permission to go with them and to let them visit the Freiberg temple and see the beautiful town of Dresden which is very near.

For all those who are not L.D.S., we are a genealogical data collecting people. We seek after our kindred dead because we believe our families are eternal. Almost anywhere in the world, you are able to go to a Family History Center, which is connected to the meeting house. There are people there to assist you in finding your ancestors. Genealogy is the most sought after hobby in the world. That is because the Lord wants and needs us to further his work to bring families together.

If you haven't started to find out about your family, take this invitation to visit a center near your home. The Largest Center is in Salt Lake City, but each chapel should have a center. It is to one such center in Forst that we were assigned to go. We needed to find out how things were running there, did they need any help or training and if any equipment needed to be repaired. The best part of all was hearing any spiritual experiences they may have encountered while working in genealogy.

One such experience happened a few years ago. A non member gentleman had ordered a film and was looking for the names of his ancestors. The director of the center came over to see what he was looking for, as she was looking for ancestors in the same area. She said the man knew her family name and gave her the telephone number of a member of her family that could help her. She said things like that happen all the time. Many non members have a strong feeling to do the work but do not know why. It is our job to tell them why. We love this job, it is so fulfilling.

After spending an hour there we took Johnny and Jenny to lunch at a most unique restaurant. Definitely an experience. When we walked in it looked like we were at a wedding reception everything coordinated with butterflies (schmitterlings) glass beads everything imaginable. Take a look at the tables you will know what I mean. It was refreshing however, and the food was wonderful German fare. The sauces were delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food. We walked through the town. It was a delightful experience going to Forst.
