Mai 29, 2010 the DOM and more sites

Slept in this morning but it was not a good day for running around in the cemetaries, so Richard, you will have to wait until there is a sunny day for us to go to Darmstadt. We opted to go to another wonderful place in Frankfurt, the Romerberg plaza and the Dom (cathedral). I know you have seen both of them when viewing places in Germany. I have included lots of pictures. The Dom is quite the place they hold Mass there everyday at 5:00 and they ring the bell which weighs 12 tons. The third heaviest bell in the world. Gene tells me this is where the Kings and Emperors of Germany were crowned here for 500 yrs. The Romerberg Plaza was reconstructed exactly like it was before the war. We had a delightful time looking through the shops and buying presents. Their was a clown in the middle of the Plaza and he was making balloon animals for the young girls sitting with their sketch books. They were drawing the statue that was in the middle of the plaza. It was so refreshing to see that children are learning about the importance of art. We walked along the river Main (pronounced Mine). It is fairly wide and this particular day they were holding a National Rowing competition. I thought of Brittany and I'll bet she would have liked to have been here. On the way home we visited the Zeil Mall it looks like a big hole in the wall. It is all glass and the elevator is the longest in the world. I couldn't stop taking pictures of it. I took Rachel's advice and started taking more photos of people. Notice the spify guy in the bow tie and the cute little old lady all decked out in her 40's best. Oh yes, and check out the cobblestones. Believe me my feet can attest to that. They are beautiful though. There are no concrete walk ways in Germany, all inlaid brick or stones. Also notice the statue of David and Goliath. You'll have to look really hard to see the giant's head under David's feet. Well had a great day love all.

  1. Great pic's. I especially like the pic's of the older buildings with the inlaid wood. That style is called a "Fachwerk Haus". I'm glad that you are also noticing the artwork. In Germany, you grow up quickly at a kid because they don't always censor the public artwork or advertisements. Looks like you are having a great time.
